Trend // Suits

Suits.
Whether classic, modern or colorful, suits have appeared to be one of the major trends for fall 2012. Indeed, most collections presented in Milan and Paris during the past few weeks were composed of suits. Despite its strict and formal connotation, those suits emerged in several forms, each fashion house bringing its own vision of it. The man of fall 2012 is definitely someone who can play with codes, proportions and details. Because in my opinion, suits are all about the little details that make them unique. Over the past few years though, suits were too often associate with a uniform devoid of originality, but the fashion houses proved once more that the possibilities are actually endless.
Down below is a little suitscape I made :

Leather suits (Jil Sander, Agnès B, Hermès)

Following the S&M trend that has been going on for a few months now, it didn't surprise me to see suits made out of leather. In my opinion, these could be worn by someone who's confident in himself, perhaps someone a little bit mysterious. It's a nice way to mix classic (brought by the formal shapes) and rock'n'roll (brought by the darness and the textures). Will you dare ?

Monochromatic suits (Givenchy, Dior Homme, Costume National)

It seems that color block is not close from fading away ! A lot of fashion houses offered us some monochromatic suits that look in my opinion very modern and edgy. I think that these could be worn by someone young who wants to experiment with textures and colours, someone who sees fashion as a game and do not take it too seriously.

Military suits (Dior Homme, Prada, Gucci)

As suits refer to the idea of power and authority, it seemed natural to me that some designers incorporate codes belonging to the military. Whether using highly structured shoulders, khakis declined in infinite shades or double-breasted jackets, these suits give according to me a breakneck pace.

There are definitely more trends going on with suits but these are the ones that caught my attention first. If you have any other ideas, please feel free to include them in your coment !

Iris Van Herpen

Breathtaking.

That's the very first word that came to my mind when I saw Iris Van Herpen Couture collection for Spring Summer 2012. I waited so impatiently for this collection, the last two ones having left me speechless. Iris is one of these rising young and talentuous designers, who's work is absolutely outstanding. I do not think I've been as amazed by a show since the Galliano for Dior era or more recently by Haider Hackermann.
I personally never had the chance, or should I say the honor to attend one of Iris' shows but I'm quiet sure of one thing, it must be very different from the average shows. I kind of see hers such as an incredible experience, a journey into a wondrous and mystical world where Nature and Women are One.
Because I feel that this is the essence of Iris' work, to create sophisticated and blowminding constructions giving the impression it was made by Mother Nature after million years.

I wouldn't call Iris a fashion designer, I'd say she's a magician of architecture. I'm looking forward for her work and bet it's just a matter of time before she becomes big. That's what I call raw talent.

Paris Men FW 2012/13 (Day 2)

Hi everyone,

Today was the second day of my fashion week marathon ! Yes, you can definitely call this a marathon since my friend Xing and I got lost, walk miles and miles by feet under the rain and missed the fashion shuttle.. I feel exhausted but also self-satisfied because we've been able to attend a few shows.

The first show we went to was Julius. The show took place at la maison des métallos, which is a very old building in Paris, a true symbolism of its industrial era. As I'm really attached to details, I loved the invition which was a CD jacket, I found it very original and inspiring. Inspiring in a way that the music has an important role during the show because it embodies the concept behind the collection. A show is a pleasure for the eyes but it also should be a pleasure for the ears. Anyways, a thick smoke was all over the place, giving a mysterious aspect to the location. According to me the collection was great, I just love the drapes and the monochromatic looks, I think it's very edgy and modern. Here are some pictures :

Then we headed to Gustavolins and Juun J. I feel like the more collections I see from Juun J, the more I love their work. The show occured at l'Espace des Blancs Manteaux in Le Marais. The shapes were very futuristic and the use of fabric was incredible. Juun J offered us some strong pieces such as statement jackets or wide printed sweaters. I don't know why but I saw a lot of Saint Laurent's work in this collection, maybe it explains why I love it that much. Judge by yourself :

To recap today was a pretty good day even though the weather was terrible and we faced a few problems. But other than that I'm super glad that we've been able to attend those shows.
Coming up : a review on Givenchy collection.

Paris Men FW 2012/13 (Day 1)

Hey everyone,

As some of you may know, Paris Fashion Week has begun !
My friend Xing from http://huxlittlethings.tumblr.com/, and I, met at 9:30 this morning to attend a few shows. When we arrived to the Phillip Lim location I had the pleasure and honour to have my picture taken by the amazing guys from Stockholm Streetsyle. Well, if only I had been photographed only by them.. I've been approached by other bloggers, and I can't wait to put my hands on these photos. I'll make an article about that once I got them all.

Unfortunately for us, it was clearly impossible to attend the 3.1 Phillip Lim show. A bit upset, we took the Fashion Shuttle which drove us to our next destination : Kolor (1st picture). I had never heard of that designer before so the show was a total surprise for me. I thought that the shapes and textures were pretty interesting, and I absolutely loved the red socks detail. Kolor is definitely a brand who's work needs to be followed, I bet he'll be huge in a few collections.
Our next show was Issey Miyake, which took place at Place des Vosges, near the Marais district. The shapes and colours were really nice even though it is not my style and I wouldn't wear those clothes.
Then, we ended up at Bercy for the Rick Owens show. I was pretty nervous because M. Owens is really a designer I look up to and I must say that is sense of fashion is like no other. Besides being able to attend the show, we had the best place ever as we were in between all of the photographers..
Actually it was the very first time for me to see a show from this angle, and I must tell you that it is the best place ever since there's nobody in front of you. The funny thing though is that they all had those  massive cameras (which probably cost like 10 times the price of the Prada shoes I was wearing), and I was standing between all of them, taking pictures with my poor Blackberry Bold. I felt so bad, how embarassing ! I absolutely need to buy a camera, this will definitely be my next purchase...
Anyways, Owens did not disappoint us at all, it was for me the best show of the day !

Love X

Nightlife

Hey everyone,

Today's subject is : Attitude. Let me first tell you a little story, about what happend to a friend and I when we went to the Silencio nightclub, the one designed by David Lynch.

It was on a Wednesday night, probably two weeks ago. My friend Xing and I had a few drinks and we decided to head to the Silencio, which is definitely one of my favourite places to party in the capital. Since I already went to the Silencio before, I thought that going in would be another piece of cake. Unfortunately for us, I was wrong. As soon as we arrived, the guard asked us :

'Are you a member, a VIP, or invited by someone who's in there ?'
 'No' we said.
 'Please, wait'.

And that's when it gets interesting, because the boss of the club went out to talk to us.

'Who do you work for ? Do you at least work in fashion ?'
At this time my friend and I were just petrified to say something, because let's be realistic, the situation was really grotesque. I mean, I know that the nightclub is hype and that the partygoers are the showcase of the club but that doesn't give him the right to judge people based on who they work for... Because the thing is that if I told him I was a business student, he probably never would have let us in.
So we used my friend's background as an answer, because she used to study at la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. And Abracadabra ! The doors opened to us.. (and we had a great time by the way).

This story is just another proof of how hard it is to get into certain places and events when you're not part of the industry. I personally think that it's kind of sad because I know that there are a lot of talents out there but they're not given the chance to be heard. As tough as it is to feel rejected, I guess we just have to keep fighting for our goals because all of our efforts will pay one day or another.

Introduction

Hello everyone,

First of all, welcome to Fashion Is My Boyfriend.
As I had several problems with my previous blog, I thought it might be nice to start a new one.
For those who don't know me yet, my name is Gauthier and Paris is my hometown. I'm currently studying business in one of my favourite area of the capital : Saint Germain des Prés. How sweet is it, once I'm done with my courses, to have a few drinks at the Café de Flore, or to do some window shopping.

My dream is to become an international buyer after my graduation. To feed my thirst of knowledge in fashion, I read a lot of magazines, browse through numerous blogs and attend as many fashion events as I can. However, it's not easy for a 18 years old man to make it in fashion because the industry is highly selective and private. But no matter how many "No" I'm getting, one thing is for sure, I'll never give up on my dreams.

As Paris Menswear Fashion Week is starting today, I thought it could be the right time for me to start posting articles again. I miss putting my thoughts "on paper" and sharing with you guys my opinions on this and that. I hope you'll stick with me for this wonderful and fashion-esque adventure !
